Summer Study Abroad in Sicily, Italy Six Week Programs

Credits awarded: up to 9 academic credits in up to 3 of the courses listed below

Enroll with a friend and share a room and each student receives a 200 Euro discount! Students must enroll for same dates, but may select different courses.

Application deadline: April 1st Late applications will be accepted on a space available basis.

The six week Summer Study Abroad in Italy program allows students to earn 9 academic credits in an intensive study program or 6 academic credits in a less intensive program.  Summer program courses offered include all levels of Italian language study and Italian studies courses in Italian literature, art history, geology, political science/sociology, history and archeology taught in either English or Italian. Taormina is a magical center for culture in the summer with music concerts, an international film festival, art exhibits and activities drawing an international audience to Taormina stages and piazzas. Students need only to stroll along Taormina's main street, Corso Umberto, to capture the lively Sicilian spirit and feel a part of the community.  Students enrolled in the Six Week Summer Study Abroad in Italy program are given two housing options - single room in a pensione with breakfast included (similar to a bed and breakfast accommodation) or single room in a shared student apartment.  Some pensione have pools or balconies.  Housing choice is confirmed upon acceptance of student into the Study Abroad in Italy program and receipt of final payment.

Six Week Summer Study Abroad in Italy, Sicily Programs include:

  • Roundtrip transportation from and to Catania's Fontanarossa Airport
  • Orientation in Taormina
  • Welcome Dinner
  • Housing in pensione (bed and breakfast) in single room or shared student apartment
  • Daily breakfast
  • First day package (2 ring binder, notepad, pen)
  • Student discount card for local businesses
  • Guided historical walking tour of Taormina
  • PC's available during school hours
  • Free WiFi connection (Monday to Friday 8:30 - 5:00 at school)
  • Weekly seminars in Italian culture, history, literature or art
  • Weekly Italian film socials
  • Weekly social activity
  • Optional Weekend full day guided excursions on Saturdays (additional fee)

Language courses are total immersion study of Italian language and culture combining oral and written expression. Emphasis is on building communicative proficiency along with a basic command of Italian grammar. A variety of resources (journals, reviews, magazines, commercials, TV ads, video clips and music) expose students to the sights and sounds of contemporary Italy. Classes are restricted to a maximum of 12 students to optimize language acquisition.

All levels of Italian are offered all sessions.

Syllabi for programs are available for faculty members to review prior to approval of academic credits for study abroad in Sicily courses.
Students may directly transfer credits into their home university or earn US university credits through Auburn University.
