Montclair in Sicily - The Mediterranean: Crossroads of Civilizations

This Summer Earn 6 MSU Credits and Fulfill Graduation Requirements!

Between June 29 - July 27, 2008
(with an optional extension in Rome July 27 – July 29)

Undergraduate and Graduate Students Earn 6 Credits and Fulfill GNED 303 While Taking Two of the Following Courses:

HIST 103: “Foundations of Western Civilization”

HIST 299: "History Study Abroad: The Many Manifestations of Italian Culture"

HIST 400: "Senior Seminar"

HIST 401: "Kingdoms in the Sun: Sicily & Southern Italy in Antiquity & the Middle Ages"

HIST 443: "Internship in History: Preserving Manuscripts from Medieval Sicily"

HIST 499: "Selected Topics in History: Modern Migrations of the Mezzogiorno"
(students who take this course may receive Italian credit in lieu of History credit)

*HIST 525: "History of American Labor, 1870 - 1970" (with a Focus on Immigration)

*HIST 580: "Seminar in Western History"

*Please note that these are graduate-level courses.

The program is also open to non-MSU students and a limited number of special participants:

- K-12 Teachers Who May Earn Professional Development Credit
- High Achieving High School Juniors and Seniors

Tentative 2008 Program Cost: $3900* + Tuition and Fees for 6 MSU Credits
(or + Auditing and Administrative Fees for Non-Students)

*Price Includes:

Roundtrip Airfare,
Roundtrip Airport Transportation to Taormina,
Pre-Departure Orientation,
Double Room in a Suite with Shared Bathroom in the President Hotel Splendid (Two-Star Hotel with Open-Air Swimming Pool, Continental Breakfast Included),
Field Trips to Palermo/Monreale, Agrigento, and Piazza Armerina,
and a Farewell Sicilian Dinner

MSU reserves the right to triple students if necessary. Air conditioning is also available at additional cost if requested in writing at time of registration (please note that we will not be able to arrange for air conditioning after this time).

Optional Additional Weekend Excursions Available at Extra Cost:
(1) Rome and the Vatican & (2) Naples, Capri and Pompeii
