Geology of the Mediterranean and the Volcanoes of Sicily

GEOLOGY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN AND THE VOLCANOES OF SICILY
STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN TAORMINA, SICILY

Sicily, a land of active volcanoes, is an ideal location to explore the transformation over the past two centuries from the early mythological interpretation of volcanic phenomena in the Mediterranean to the current scientific development of volcanology.

The distinctive geological characteristics of Sicily are investigated enhanced by on site exploration of Mount Etna – one of the world’s most active volcanoes; Stromboli and the Aeolian Islands; and the Iblean Foreland – the Sicilian margin of the African Plate located in the southeastern section of Sicily.

The syllabus for the course listed below is available for faculty to review prior to approval of academic credits for study abroad in Sicily courses.
