LI 433: Italian Cinema: Images of and from Italian Women
June – 8th to 22nd
Earn Three Credits in a Two Week June Session in Taormina, Sicily and experience the annual Taormina International Film Festival. Course combines daily lectures with viewings of international films and lectures by film directors, screenwriters and critics. Daily class lectures are in English; presentations by international film specialists are in the individual’s native language with earphones provided for translation into English or Italian. An optional additional one hour seminar in Italian is scheduled for Italian and Italian studies majors.
Course description: This course will examine the many facets of Italian women beginning in the Middle Ages continuing to the present, including modern Italian-American women. Images are experienced through the cinematic lens and through literature, art and law to capture the essence of the Italian woman. The course coincides with the Taormina International Film Festival and in conjunction with daily lectures, students will attend films and lectures featured at the Festival.
