All BABILONIA's students can participate to the Lessons on Cinema and the Cinema Campus and Master Classes organized by Taormina Film festival during
Taormina Film Festival in June and will be able to meet with film directors, actors & actresses and cinema professors.
Tornatore, Visconti, Rosi and Rosellini are among the many talented directors who contributed cinematic masterpieces which highlight Sicilian history and culture. Italian Society in Cinema: Cinema of the South examines Italian Culture (history, languages, politics, etc) through the lens of the camera, beginning with the Risorgimento (Reunification) in 1861 to the present, paying particular attention to films revolving around the region of Sicily. Some topics covered include: Reunification, World War II, the creation and boundaries of Neorealism, the image of women, morality and the Church, “Tangentopoli” and the Birth of the Second Republic, the Mafia, and even multiculturalism in the South.
The syllabus for the course listed below is available for faculty to review prior to approval of academic credits for study abroad in Sicily courses.
