STUDY ABROAD SUMMER PROGRAM - ELON UNIVERSITY, NC

Elon Summer Study Abroad in Taormina, Italy, has a triple goal: fluency in Italian, an understanding of the Italian culture, and to provide Elon students with a deeper awareness of their own culture.

The academic program, hosted by the Istituto Babilonia in Taormina, Sicily, offers participants a four-week immersion into the Italian language and culture as well as an introduction to Italian civilization and contemporary history. In addition to the academic courses, students partake of the rich cultural past and present of Taormina and Sicily.

The Italian language courses are taught by the faculty of the language institute (Istituto Babilonia) whereas the civilization course is taught (in English) by the Elon faculty. Many excursions are also organized by the “on-site” faculty: a guided tour of Taormina and day trips to Mount Etna and other cities of Sicily such as Palermo and Agrigento.
