Travel Visas to study Italian in Italy

The customs stamp placed in the U.S. Passport is equivalent to the Dichiarazione di Presenza required of the Schengen area citizens. Additionally, according to the current legislation, U.S. citizens, do not need to apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno, if staying for fewer than 90 days.
Students staying with host families will be asked by their host families for their passports in order to register the students' stay with the family in Taormina. Italian law requires host families to document foreign visitors and passports are returned immediately the students after the legal registration process. Host families generally complete this process on the first working day following the student's arrival.
